HandyDob6 Focuser Bracket & Brace Upgrade
(2-Inch Filter Compatibility)
Starting from April 2026, the HandyDob6 has been updated with a redesigned focuser bracket and brace to support 2-inch filter compatibility.
This update applies to all sales channels, including our global store BuiltAstro.com and Amazon store.
Limitation of the Previous Design
The HandyDob6 uses a 1.25-inch focuser, which means that 2-inch filters cannot be attached directly.
To enable compatibility, users could connect an M48 extension tube (20mm) to use 2-inch filters. However, this introduced an issue:
- A small lip (retention tab) on the focuser brace, designed to prevent it from slipping out
- This lip interferes with the M48 extension tube
- As a result, the focuser cannot sit properly and is lifted by approximately 1.2 mm
While this could be solved by trimming the lip with tools, doing so removes its original function of securing the brace.
A Community-Driven Solution
While reviewing user feedback on Cloudy Nights, we came across an excellent design by DBullard.
With DBullard’s permission, we adopted and refined this design to improve the HandyDob6.

Key Improvements
The updated design includes:
- Redesigned focuser bracket and brace structure

- Improved compatibility while retaining the 1.25-inch focuser

For convenience, we have prepared an upgrade kit.
The pricing has been set reasonably with existing HandyDob6 owners in mind.
The upgrade kit is not yet available for purchase but will be restocked soon, and will be offered through both our BuiltAstro store and Amazon US.
Once we determine that earlier HandyDob6 owners have had sufficient opportunity to purchase this kit, we plan to discontinue its sale.
